Trump's Approval Hits Career Low of 32% as Voters Balk at Cost of Living
A new poll puts President Donald Trump's approval at a career-low 32%, with Republican backing down to 73% and only 17% approving of his handling of the cost of living.
President Donald Trump's approval rating has dropped to 32%, the lowest mark of his political career, according to a new poll that points to mounting voter frustration over the cost of living and an unpopular war with Iran.
The four-day survey, which closed on Sunday, found that 73% of Republicans approved of Trump's job performance, down from 82% a week earlier. His overall approval stood at 35% in that earlier poll.
Trump returned to the White House in January 2025 promising to tame inflation and end foreign wars. In a poll conducted in the hours after he was first sworn in, he enjoyed a 47% approval rate.
Only 17% of respondents in the new poll approved of his handling of the cost of living, the issue Americans say will most determine how they vote in the November 3 midterm elections, when Trump's Republicans are defending narrow congressional majorities.
Discontent among Republicans on the subject has been building since Trump launched the war on Iran in February, which has pushed gasoline and diesel prices sharply higher. For the first time, Republicans who disapprove of his handling of the cost of living outnumber those who approve, 51% to 44%.
The poll was conducted online and gathered 1,277 responses from US adults nationwide. It had a margin of error of 3 percentage points.
