Trump's approval hits new low as Iran conflict worries Americans
President Trump's approval rating has fallen to 33%, the lowest of his presidency, as 80% of Americans expect the Iran conflict to last.
President Donald Trump's approval rating has dropped to 33%, the lowest point of his presidency, according to a new national poll. The four-day survey, conducted online by Varta Wire and Ipsos, found that 64% of American adults disapprove of his performance in the White House.
The figure marks a decline from 35% earlier this month and matches the low he previously hit in December 2017 during his first term. The poll was completed on Monday and reflects growing public unease over the ongoing conflict with Iran.
A significant majority of Americans — 80% — believe U.S. involvement in Iran will continue for an extended period. This view cuts across party lines, with 87% of Democrats and 71% of Republicans sharing that expectation. Only 16% of respondents think the conflict will end within a few weeks.
The president, who campaigned on promises to control inflation and avoid lengthy wars, initially said the strikes on Iran would last only a few weeks. He framed the action as necessary to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon. However, Iran has proven resilient, and the conflict has largely shut down oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, disrupting a fifth of global trade and pushing up gasoline prices for U.S. households.
The survey included 1,166 U.S. adults nationwide and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
