President Donald Trump on Friday weighed in on the mistrial declared in the Lindsay Clancy case, describing the killing of three young children as a "horrible tragedy." Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump said he had followed the trial in Plymouth, Massachusetts, closely due to its extensive media coverage.
"It's a terrible situation. Look, she did a horrible, horrible thing," Trump said. "Can't be worse. But you'll find out what the price to pay is. There'll be a price—a mental institution or jail or something."
A judge declared a mistrial earlier Friday after jurors reported they were unable to reach a unanimous verdict on whether Clancy was criminally responsible for the deaths of her children.
In a separate exchange, the president offered a robust defense of data centers, pushing back against community opposition. Trump argued that properly sited facilities generate significant revenue, lower taxes, and create wealth, while warning that rejecting them could lead to economic decline.
"If you want to go through poverty, crime, and squalor, I would say don't approve data centers," Trump said, adding that new projects approved under his administration would build their own power plants and feed excess energy back into the grid.
His remarks follow a social media post earlier in the week in which he suggested that communities refusing data centers risked becoming "backwards and poor."
