Trump and Michael Cohen reunite in warm radio interview
Trump and Michael Cohen shared a cordial radio interview, marking a surprising reconciliation after years of legal conflict.
In a striking turn of events, former U.S. President Donald Trump and his one-time personal attorney Michael Cohen have publicly reconciled. The two men, whose relationship collapsed into years of litigation and public acrimony, appeared together on Cohen's New York radio program on Thursday.
Cohen, who is currently seeking a presidential pardon, conducted the interview from a position of surprising warmth. He addressed Trump as "boss" and delivered a six-minute reflection on friendship and forgiveness, asking how two people who had waged such a bitter public war could find their way back to the same room. His answer: "We forgave."
Trump, speaking from the White House, greeted his former fixer of 15 years with a friendly "Hello Michael. How are you, Michael?" He praised Cohen for recanting his previous statements, a reference to the testimony that had helped secure Trump's 2024 conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to a $130,000 hush-money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
Cohen served more than a year in prison after being sentenced in 2018 for his role in the payment scheme, as well as for tax evasion and lying to Congress. During Trump's trial, his attorney Todd Blanche — now the U.S. attorney general — had famously called Cohen the "GLOAT," or "greatest liar of all time."
Trump, who denies the encounter with Daniels and is appealing the conviction, used the interview to touch on familiar themes, including immigration and his skepticism of unfavorable polls. The White House did not immediately comment on the interview, with additional portions expected to air on Sunday.
Cohen closed the segment by singing a line from the 1978 Peaches & Herb hit: "Reunited, and it feels so good."
