Trump Meets Crypto Leaders, Treasury Moves to Calm Bond Market

President Trump hosted crypto and finance leaders at the White House, while the Treasury announced a larger bond buyback to ease market pressure.

President Donald Trump convened a meeting at the White House on Wednesday with prominent cryptocurrency and finance executives, focusing on the future of digital assets and related technologies. The gathering in the Roosevelt Room took place alongside a separate session held by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's Innovation Advisory Committee, which addresses the intersection of technology and finance.

Opening the discussion, Trump highlighted his administration's record on the sector, stating, "We're ensuring that America remains the undisputed leader, not only in Bitcoin and crypto but also technologies like prediction markets, artificial intelligence, and much more."

The meeting comes as the bond market has been sending signals of concern throughout the summer, with rising yields drawing attention from global markets and policymakers. In a move aimed at easing those pressures, the U.S. Treasury Department announced on Wednesday that it will more than double the amount of government bonds it plans to buy back. The announcement had an immediate effect, helping to lower longer-term yields, at least temporarily.

The stakes are considerable, as elevated bond yields can weigh on economic growth and put downward pressure on stock markets worldwide.
