Trump Envoys Land in Moscow for High-Stakes Ukraine Peace Push
US envoys Witkoff and Kushner arrive in Moscow for talks on ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with a visit to Kyiv planned.
Senior United States officials have arrived in Moscow as part of a renewed diplomatic effort to broker an end to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, an adviser and son-in-law to President Donald Trump, landed at Vnukovo Airport on Saturday morning, where they were received by Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev.
The visit follows an announcement by President Trump on Friday, who confirmed that the two negotiators were being dispatched to both Moscow and Kyiv to explore avenues for a resolution. Speaking from the White House, Trump indicated the envoys were tasked with assessing whether a deal could be reached, expressing cautious optimism that a breakthrough might be possible.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has since confirmed that the American delegation is scheduled to travel to Kyiv by September 6th after concluding their discussions in Moscow. In a notable development, Zelensky stated that Ukraine would hold off on launching airstrikes during the negotiation period, and called on Russia to take corresponding measures.
The diplomatic mission comes on the heels of a separate, unannounced visit to Russia by CIA Director John Ratcliffe late last month. President Trump had earlier suggested that this intelligence-channel engagement could contribute positively to the broader efforts aimed at resolving the conflict, which has persisted for years.
