Trump Says 'We Caught Them' After Five Arrested Near UK Base Used in Iran War

Five men were arrested in the early hours of Sunday near a British air base used by the United States in its war against Iran, an incident President Donald Trump addressed briefly with reporters.

Speaking at Joint Base Andrews on Sunday night, Trump said of the detained men, "We caught them," adding that more information would be released soon. He did not elaborate on the suspects' identities or any possible motive.

London's Metropolitan Police, which leads investigations into potential terrorist activity, said it received a call at 12:45 a.m. about three suspicious vehicles that appeared to be heading toward RAF Fairford. The base is British-owned but operated by the United States under an arrangement dating to the Cold War.

The arrests come amid heightened concern in the United Kingdom over threats from hostile states. Russia and Iran are among the countries that have used proxies to carry out crimes on British soil. In March, officials said the number of national security cases involving hostile-state activity, including by Iran, had risen 50 percent in the six months to December 2025.

Separately, Trump said he was scheduled to have dinner with Dario Amodei, the chief executive of Anthropic, whom he described as "very highly respected." The president indicated the meeting would take place on Tuesday and that he would also hold a dinner with Amodei on Sunday night.

The planned engagement comes after the heads of Anthropic and OpenAI recently warned that America's most advanced artificial intelligence models are powerful enough to be dangerous and should be regulated and independently tested before release. In essays, social media posts and speeches to the United Nations, the executives outlined alarming scenarios in a rare display of agreement.

Trump has resisted calls for new AI regulations, dismissing warnings about risks to humanity as a "hoax" intended to benefit China.
