Trump to Campaign in Ohio for Sen. Husted as Senate Control Hangs in Balance

President Donald Trump is set to travel to Ohio on Saturday to campaign for Sen. Jon Husted, as the Republican seeks to hold off a competitive challenge from Democratic former Sen. Sherrod Brown.
The event will take place in Vandalia, a community just north of Dayton. It follows the president's scheduled stops in Oklahoma on Thursday and Alabama on Friday.
The Ohio contest is widely viewed as critical to determining which party controls the Senate after November's midterm elections. Trump has previously pledged to campaign in 35 of the most competitive battleground races during the final stretch of the campaign.
Brown is mounting a comeback bid two years after losing his Senate seat to Republican Bernie Moreno. Husted, a longtime figure in Ohio Republican politics, has served as a state lawmaker, House speaker, secretary of state and lieutenant governor. He was appointed to the Senate seat left vacant when JD Vance became vice president.
Ohio Republican Party Chairman Alex Triantafilou recently said he hoped Trump would visit the state, which the president carried by 11 percentage points in 2024. "We definitely want him here," Triantafilou said. "He's a turnout driver for us."
