Trump Predicts Iran Conflict Will End After US Midterms
President Trump forecasts the Iran war will conclude right after the US midterm elections, citing Tehran's inability to sustain pressure.
President Donald Trump has stated that the ongoing conflict with Iran will conclude "immediately after" the US midterm elections scheduled for November 3. Speaking to reporters before departing for the Republican National Convention in Dallas, Trump asserted that Tehran's attempts to influence the vote would prove futile.
"I think war is going to end immediately after the election because they can't hold out any longer. They're desperate to try and affect the election," Trump said.
The conflict, now in its seventh month, has shown no signs of abating. On Wednesday, Iran reported attacking ten ships near the Strait of Hormuz, a response to the US sinking of five Iranian oil tankers. These renewed hostilities have driven Brent crude futures above $100 a barrel for the first time since July.
Trump's approval ratings have recently fallen to a record low, attributed to public frustration over the prolonged war and a deepening cost-of-living crisis. The upcoming midterms are traditionally viewed as a referendum on the sitting president's performance.
The President also predicted that oil prices would decline once the conflict ends. While acknowledging that diplomatic negotiations remain a theoretical possibility, he indicated they are not a preferred course of action. "Yes, a negotiation could possible happen, but it's not something we're looking at," he added.
