In his post, Trump framed the tariff increase as an incentive for manufacturers to relocate production to the United States, stating that building in the US would result in zero tariffs. He also leveled sharp criticism at Canada, suggesting the country has been difficult to deal with and asserting that the US does not depend on its northern neighbor.
The announcement follows the failure of the two countries to reach a trade agreement late on Friday. Both sides have blamed each other for the impasse.
