Trump Touts 'America First' Dominance in UN General Assembly Address
Trump returned to the UN General Assembly to promote his America First strategy, citing domestic gains and foreign policy wins amid a six-month war with Iran.
US President Donald Trump returned to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday to outline why his "America First" approach remains his guiding strategy, presenting the United States as a dominant force on the world stage.
Opening his address with domestic themes, Trump spoke about unemployment, crime and poverty before turning to international matters. He asserted that the American economy is the envy of the world, its military the most powerful on Earth, and its technology second to none, adding that the country is leading in virtually everything.
The speech then shifted to foreign policy, including the US war with Iran, which has now stretched beyond six months. Trump is seeking to wind down the conflict ahead of midterm elections in November.
He also discussed potential US military involvement in Cuba, and described the removal of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro from office as his biggest success.
Throughout the address, Trump emphasised his deal-making skills, pointing to his role in helping bring several conflicts to an end, even as the Iran war continues.
