Trump Signs 'Morally Binding' Super Intelligence Accord With Tech Leaders

US President Donald Trump signed what he called a "morally binding" agreement with leading technology executives at the White House on Tuesday, aimed at guiding the development of artificial intelligence — which he announced would officially be renamed "Super Intelligence."

The gathering brought together SpaceX and Tesla chief Elon Musk, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, among others. The arrangement, described as the "White House Accord on Super Intelligence," sets out voluntary commitments for the industry, with the administration pushing companies to self-police while seeking to preserve America's technological edge over China.

During the discussions, Trump stressed his push to reclassify the sector, saying, "It's not artificial." Musk, appearing alongside the president, stumbled over the new terminology before correcting himself. "I think it is worth highlighting the positive benefits of A.I. ... S.I., pardon me," he said, drawing a light-hearted "Thank you" from Trump.

Amodei struck a cautious note, pointing to both the "incredible benefits" and "very real risks" of the technology. He said the medical promise of the field was significant and echoed the president's framing that whoever leads in the domain gains a decisive advantage. "We all need to work together to make sure that we can win, and we can win safely if we do this right," he said.

Zuckerberg called the meeting a "historic conversation" and emphasised the importance of public confidence. "We want to give the American people and our customers' confidence that the technology works in the way that we intend," he said. He added that the companies had agreed to put in place "multiple layers of auditing and controls," combining rigorous internal evaluations with external audits.

Huang underlined the economic scale of the sector, describing the current boom as "the single largest infrastructure buildout in human history." Investment in semiconductor fabrication plants, computing facilities and emerging startups, he argued, is generating "an enormous amount of jobs" across the United States. "This is the largest industrial revolution in history," he said.

The accord followed an executive order Trump signed the same day, titled "Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence," which directs the federal government to replace the terms "Artificial Intelligence" and "AI" with "Super Intelligence" and "SI" across executive branch operations. The order states that, to the maximum extent permitted by law, the executive branch will use the new terminology and will not acknowledge the older terms in any applicable setting.
