Trump and Xi Watch Military Review in White House Rose Garden

President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping took part in a military review in the Rose Garden at the White House, closing out a morning of ceremonial events tied to the Chinese leader's state visit.

Accompanied by first lady Melania Trump and Peng Liyuan, the two leaders stood at the top of the Rose Garden stairs to watch the proceedings. Military band members were positioned on the roof of the West Wing, while other musicians performed in colonial-era dress and white wigs.

The review included honour cordon troops marching and a military flyover over the White House, viewed from the garden below. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth watched from the colonnade.

A military review is a customary element of state visits at the White House, though it is typically held on the South Lawn rather than in the Rose Garden.

Earlier, before stepping outside for the ceremony, Trump and Xi walked along the colonnade past the presidential "walk of fame," where portraits of all U.S. presidents are displayed. Trump pointed to his own portrait during the walk.

After the review concluded, the two leaders and their spouses turned and walked toward the Oval Office.
