Tripura tribal council freezes Group A, B officers' salaries over pension delay
The TTAADC has frozen the salaries of its Group A and Group B officers after a High Court order over a former employee's unpaid pension and retirement benefits.
The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has withheld the salaries of its Group A and Group B officers, following a court order tied to the delayed settlement of a former employee's retirement benefits.
An official letter made public on Wednesday (September 23, 2026) stated that the pay of these officers will remain frozen until further orders.
The action traces back to a September 9 direction from the High Court of Tripura, which sought steps against all TTAADC employees and officers other than those in Group C and Group D categories until the retirement-related matter is resolved.
The court was hearing a petition from a former council employee who said his pension and other retirement benefits, amounting to ₹16.03 lakh, were not processed after he retired on January 31, 2025.
The council had contended that it could not release the sum unless the State Finance Secretary enabled the release of funds. The State counsel, however, told the court that the TTAADC has its own funds and does not need the Finance Secretary's permission to disburse retirement benefits.
The court directed the TTAADC Chief Executive Officer, the Finance Secretary and district treasury officers to examine the matter and take necessary steps.
Chaitanya Murti, Chief Executive Member of the TTAADC, said the council issued an order on September 17 withholding the salaries of all Group A and Group B officers until further orders.
The High Court is scheduled to hear the matter again on October 5, a week after elections to the 587 village committees under the TTAADC are due to be held.
The Tipra Motha Party, an ally of the Bharatiya Janata Party, governs the TTAADC. The regional party won 20 of the council's 28 seats in the April elections.
