Turkey Ramps Up Diplomacy to Revive Black Sea Grain Corridor, Erdogan Says
Turkey is stepping up diplomatic efforts to re-establish the Black Sea grain corridor, President Erdogan said, adding that Kyiv had responded positively.
Turkey has intensified its push to bring back the Black Sea grain corridor, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, describing the effort as both a logistical and a diplomatic priority.
Speaking to a group of Turkish journalists in New York, Erdogan said Ankara had widened its engagement on the issue and was moving faster on the diplomatic front to make the route operational again. His office released the text of his remarks on Thursday.
Erdogan said he had raised the matter once more with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and had received a positive response. He did not elaborate on the specifics of the plan or a timeline.
The corridor, which once allowed Ukrainian grain shipments to reach world markets through the Black Sea, has been a central concern for global food security since it ceased operations. Restoring it would require agreement among the parties involved as well as arrangements to ensure the safety of vessels.
Turkey, which has previously helped broker arrangements for grain exports, now appears to be positioning itself again as a mediator. Erdogan's comments suggest Ankara is seeking to translate its contacts with both sides into a workable framework.
No details were provided on the next round of talks or on the conditions under which shipping could resume. For now, the focus remains on diplomacy, with Turkish officials indicating that further steps are being prepared.
