Gunman Opens Fire Outside High School in Western Turkey; Several Wounded

A gunman opened fire outside a high school in western Turkey on Tuesday, wounding at least four people, according to officials and media reports.

The attack occurred in front of a vocational and technical high school in the Turgutlu district of Manisa province, the provincial governor's office said in a statement. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.

Broadcaster HaberTurk reported that at least four people, most of them students, were wounded, and that the assailant fired a shotgun at students as they arrived at the school. The motive for the attack was not immediately known.

Security camera footage released after the incident showed a man, identified as the suspected shooter, appearing to carry a weapon as he walked and then ran down a street. His face was blurred in the footage.

Other video showed police officers and civilians struggling to restrain two men described as the parents of students at the school, while people gathered in the school courtyard. Ambulances were seen arriving at and leaving the site.

The shooting is the latest in a series of school attacks in Turkey this year. In April, a 14-year-old student opened fire in two classrooms at a school in southeastern Kahramanmaras province, killing nine students and teachers and wounding 13 others. Police shot dead the attacker.

A day before that attack, 16 people, mostly students, were wounded when a former student opened fire at a high school in nearby Sanliurfa province. That assailant later killed himself.
