Gunman Opens Fire Outside Turkish High School, at Least Four Wounded

A gunman opened fire in front of a vocational and technical high school in western Turkey on Tuesday, wounding at least four people, officials said.

The attack took place in the Turgutlu district of Manisa province, according to a statement from the provincial governor's office. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene.

Media reports said the assailant fired at students as they arrived at the school, using a shotgun. Most of those wounded were students, according to the reports.

The motive for the attack was not immediately known.

The incident comes amid heightened concern over school violence in Turkey, which has experienced two school shootings this year.

In April, a 14-year-old student opened fire on two classrooms at his school in the southeastern province of Kahramanmaras, killing nine students and teachers and wounding 13 others. The attacker was shot dead by police.

A day before that attack, 16 people, most of them students, were wounded when a former student opened fire at a high school in nearby Sanliurfa province. The assailant later took his own life.
