Two Naga civilians killed in Manipur's Senapati district; two injured
Suspected extremists killed two Naga civilians in Manipur's Senapati district on Saturday, with two others injured in the incident.
Two Naga civilians were killed in Manipur's Senapati district on Saturday (September 26, 2026), with two others injured in the same incident, officials said. The killings took place barely 48 hours after Myanmar-based assailants gunned down four people in Kamjong district.
The deceased have been identified as Rocky Mao of Chowainamei village and Kumar Poumai of Laii Shirafii village. The two injured persons, Ashiho Sani and Adani Manio, belong to the Mao Naga community.
District officials said they could not immediately confirm the circumstances of the deaths or what led to the incident. The injured were rushed to a private hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were shifted to Senapati District Hospital for autopsy and other legal formalities.
Senapati is a Naga-dominated district. One of the deceased is a Mao Naga and the other a Poumai Naga.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh was in Senapati district on an official visit when reports of the killings emerged. He attended the silver jubilee celebration of a missionary school in Mao, a town that borders Nagaland.
The incident adds to a tense spell in the state, coming close on the heels of the Kamjong killings.
