U2 to Release 'Carnaval De Luz' in November, With Dolly Parton Duet

U2 will release their 16th studio album, "Carnaval De Luz," on Nov. 13, marking the Irish band's first full-length collection of new material in nine years.

The 12-track record, announced by Interscope Records, will include a duet with Dolly Parton. The closing song, "Torn," is described as a tender country number about broken family ties with broader resonances. It was co-written by U2, Parton and Snow Patrol's Johnny McDaid, and a statement calls it what has sadly turned out to be her last recorded vocal performance.

Alongside the album announcement, the band released a new track, "Silencio." "Street of Dreams," the first song taken from the album, arrived in July.

Guitarist The Edge described the record as a messy, provocative, sacred collection of songs. Singer Bono said it would feature loud guitars, deep bass and some ecstatic rhythms.

"Carnaval De Luz" — which translates from Spanish and Portuguese as "Carnival of Light" — is produced by Jacknife Lee, who has worked with U2 since 2004's "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb."

The band, which marks its 50th anniversary this year, has remained active between albums, releasing two six-song EPs, "Days of Ash" and "Easter Lily," for Ash Wednesday and Easter respectively.

The album cover shows The Edge and Bono joined by drummer Larry Mullen Jr. and bassist Adam Clayton walking in a line along a beach, with Bono leading in a top hat and black coat — a clear echo of the Beatles' "Abbey Road" cover.
