U2 Named MusiCares Persons of the Year for 2027
MusiCares will honour U2 as its 2027 Persons of the Year at a Feb. 5 tribute gala in Los Angeles during Grammy weekend.
U2 will be honoured as MusiCares Persons of the Year for 2027, with a tribute gala set for Feb. 5 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
The event, which traditionally opens Grammy Awards weekend, will celebrate all four members of the Irish band — Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. — at a dinner and concert featuring other artists performing selections from U2's catalogue. The honourees have typically closed the evening with a short performance of their own. Organisers have yet to announce the lineup of performers.
For the first time in the gala's 36-year history, individual tickets to the concert portion of the night will be sold to the public. The change means fewer guests will be seated at the event's traditional tables, which will be priced higher than single concert tickets.
Proceeds from the evening will go to MusiCares, the organisation's arm that provides personal, financial and medical assistance to music professionals in need.
The ceremony is being relocated from its usual venue, the Los Angeles Convention Center, which is scheduled for renovations and will host activities tied to the Super Bowl.
U2, formed in Dublin 50 years ago, has lent its support to causes including global health, disaster response, addiction recovery, mental health and access to music education. MusiCares previously recognised Bono individually in 2003.
The band joins a list of past honourees that includes Mariah Carey, the Grateful Dead, Jon Bon Jovi, Berry Gordy, Smokey Robinson, Aerosmith, Dolly Parton, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.
Among U2's best-known songs are two that reached No. 1: "With or Without You" and "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For."
