UAE Condemns Iranian Missile Attack on ADNOC Vessel in Strait of Hormuz

The United Arab Emirates has condemned what it described as a hostile Iranian missile attack on a vessel linked to its state oil company in the Strait of Hormuz, accusing Tehran of acts of piracy.

State news agency WAM initially reported that ADNOC had confirmed one of its vessels was targeted by a missile early on Saturday, adding that the situation was under control. The UAE Foreign Ministry later issued a stronger statement, condemning the attack and calling on Iran to halt such actions and reopen the strait fully and unconditionally.

Neither statement provided details on the vessel's identity, cargo, or any damage sustained. No injuries were reported.

The ministry said the attack violated a UN Security Council resolution on freedom of navigation and accused Iran's Revolutionary Guards of using commercial shipping as a tool of economic pressure.

The incident is the latest in a series of disruptions to shipping in the waterway, through which about a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas passed before the conflict. Since the US-Israeli war on Iran began on February 28, freight rates have risen and security concerns have mounted.

ADNOC said on Friday that 15 of its vessels had been attacked by missiles and drones while transiting the strait since the conflict began, including three this week. Those attacks killed one crew member and injured 20 others. The company said it had been significantly affected by what it called unprovoked attacks but continued to meet customer requirements in an exceptionally challenging environment.

ADNOC, one of the world's largest energy producers, exports crude oil, natural gas, and refined products to customers worldwide.
