UAE Says Two Missiles Detected in Waters Near Fujairah Were Launched From Iran
The UAE detected two Iranian ballistic missiles on Tuesday, one falling in its territorial waters, amid heightened Gulf tensions.
The United Arab Emirates' defence ministry has confirmed that two ballistic missiles detected on Tuesday were launched from Iran. According to an official statement, one of the projectiles landed within the country's territorial waters, while the other fell outside that boundary.
This marks the first such incident reported since a strike on the Fujairah port on May 4. The ministry's statement underscored its full readiness to counter any threats and firmly address any actions aimed at undermining national security.
Earlier in the day, the UAE's interior ministry had issued a phone alert to residents warning of a missile threat. A subsequent alert clarified that the situation was safe and advised people to resume normal activities.
There has been no immediate comment from Tehran regarding the launch. The development comes just a day after a 60-day window for U.S.-Iranian peace talks expired without progress, intensifying concerns over the conflict that has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz since February.
The UAE has previously accused Iran of attacking its state-owned ADNOC vessels transiting the strait. While Tehran has not claimed responsibility for those incidents, Iran's Revolutionary Guards have in the past threatened action against ships linked to adversaries or those failing to follow Iranian directives.
