UAE and Germany to Sign Multi-Billion Dollar Deals in Investment, Energy and AI
Germany and the UAE will sign multi-billion dollar agreements on investment, energy, and AI, marking a new phase in bilateral relations.
Germany and the United Arab Emirates are set to sign a series of agreements on Thursday covering investment, artificial intelligence, and energy, with a combined value of several billion dollars. The announcement was made by Lana Nusseibeh, a minister of state in the UAE's foreign ministry, during a press briefing in Berlin on Wednesday.
Nusseibeh described the forthcoming deals as the opening of a new stage in relations between the two countries. While existing partnerships and trade ties, excluding oil, are already worth approximately $15.5 billion annually, both nations are seeking to deepen their strategic networks.
This push comes against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical uncertainty, including the ongoing conflict with Iran and shifting dynamics in transatlantic relations. Nusseibeh highlighted the potential of a stronger bilateral relationship to bridge European industrial and technological strengths with capital and growth opportunities spanning the Gulf, Asia, and Africa.
While specific details of the agreements were not disclosed, Nusseibeh indicated that a dedicated framework for technology cooperation is planned, bringing together researchers and investors. Additional agreements will focus on the energy transition, building upon existing collaborations in renewables, hydrogen, and energy efficiency.
The agreements will be signed during a visit to Berlin by UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz had visited the Gulf region in February, shortly before the outbreak of the current conflict. Nusseibeh stressed that partnerships like the one between the UAE and Germany are essential at a time when the international order is under strain.
