Passengers across the United Kingdom faced disruptions to departing flights on Tuesday after a technical fault affected the country's air traffic control system. The National Air Traffic Services (NATS) confirmed that engineers were working urgently to resolve the problem in its flight processing system, aiming to restore normal operations as quickly as possible.
In a statement on its website, NATS said that while flights were still departing and the airspace remained open, the recovery process would take some time. The organisation did not specify the cause of the technical failure.
Major airports, including Heathrow and Stansted in London, as well as those in Manchester, Birmingham, and Scotland, reported that the issue was leading to some disruptions. Travellers were advised to check the status of their flights directly with their respective airlines before heading to the airport.
Arriving flights did not appear to be affected by the technical problem, offering some relief to those landing in the country. The situation remains fluid as engineers continue their work to fully restore the system.
