UK PM Burnham lays wreath in Kyiv on Ukraine Independence Day
UK PM Andy Burnham laid a wreath in Kyiv for Ukraine's Independence Day, joining European leaders and pledging military support.
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham laid a wreath in Kyiv on Monday as part of Ukraine's Independence Day celebrations, marking his first overseas trip since taking office last month.
Burnham was among nearly a dozen European leaders and other dignitaries, including European Council President Antonio Costa, who visited the Ukrainian capital for the occasion.
During the visit, the UK leader was scheduled to co-chair a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, a group of countries supporting Ukraine against Russia's invasion. French and German leaders were expected to join the discussions virtually.
The visiting delegation used the occasion to pledge further military and financial assistance to Ukraine.
According to the Prime Minister's office, Burnham is expected to announce that the UK government has agreed to allow defence company MBDA to release classified information about British components used in the SCALP long-range missile. This move would enable France and Ukraine to advance plans for local production of the weapon within Ukraine.
