Britain's Foreign Office minister has firmly restated UK sovereignty over the Falkland Islands in Parliament, responding to Argentine President Javier Milei's renewed claims.
A senior British Foreign Office minister has issued a firm statement of the United Kingdom's position on the Falkland Islands, telling Parliament that there is "no doubt" over British sovereignty of the South Atlantic territory.
Speaking before lawmakers on Tuesday, minister Kirsty McNeill addressed recent statements by Argentine President Javier Milei, who has intensified his country's long-standing claim to the islands, which are administered by Britain as an overseas territory.
McNeill's remarks were unequivocal, underscoring both the legal status of the territory and the rights of its inhabitants. "There can be no doubt about our commitment to the Falkland Islanders, their democratic rights and the UK's sovereignty over the Falkland Islands," she said.
The statement comes as part of a broader diplomatic exchange between London and Buenos Aires over the future of the archipelago, a dispute that dates back decades. The UK has consistently maintained that the islanders' right to self-determination is paramount, a principle McNeill's comments reaffirm.
