UK Regulator Reaffirms Safety of Childhood Vaccines

Britain's medicines watchdog has issued a fresh endorsement of childhood vaccination, describing it as a safe and effective defence against serious infectious diseases.

The statement from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) comes days after a US executive order sought to reduce childhood vaccination rates. The MHRA's intervention is seen as a clear reaffirmation of the scientific consensus on immunisation.

In its announcement, the regulator pointed to multiple large-scale studies conducted worldwide that have consistently found no evidence linking vaccines to autism in children. This directly counters one of the most persistent myths surrounding childhood immunisation.

Dr Alison Cave, the MHRA's chief safety officer, stressed that the benefits of vaccination are backed by the National Health Service and all major UK public health and paediatric bodies. She urged parents to follow NHS guidance on the routine childhood vaccination schedule.

The regulator also highlighted that every vaccine approved in the UK undergoes rigorous safety and quality checks, with continuous monitoring even after products reach the market. This ongoing surveillance ensures that any potential issues are identified and addressed promptly.
