UK PM Burnham and President Trump Discuss Ukraine Ceasefire Path

UK PM Burnham and US President Trump spoke, agreeing to keep working toward a Ukraine-Russia ceasefire.

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham and US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation on Monday, during which they agreed on the necessity of continuing efforts to secure a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war. The readout from Downing Street confirmed that the two leaders discussed the ongoing conflict and the path toward ending hostilities.

During the call, Burnham reiterated the United Kingdom's steadfast support for Ukraine and endorsed the recent peace negotiations spearheaded by the United States. The discussion also extended to the Middle East, where the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of a two-state solution, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and the critical need to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

The conversation follows a weekend of intense diplomatic activity, with US peace envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Kyiv on Sunday. That meeting came after the envoys had held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday, indicating a concerted push by Washington to mediate an end to the conflict.
