Ukraine claims drone strike on Siberian petrochemical plant

Ukraine's special forces have claimed responsibility for a drone strike on a major petrochemical facility deep inside Russian territory.

In a statement released on Monday via the Telegram messaging app, the unit said its drones had successfully hit the ZapSibNeftekhim plant in the Tyumen region of western Siberia. The attack, according to the statement, resulted in a fire and significant destruction at the site.

The claim was made shortly after the governor of the Tyumen region reported that a fire had broken out at an industrial facility following a drone attack. The governor's account did not specify the name of the facility, but the location and timing align with Ukraine's assertion.

ZapSibNeftekhim is one of Russia's largest petrochemical complexes, producing a range of plastics and other materials. The incident marks one of the deepest reported strikes by Ukrainian drones into Russian territory since the conflict began.
