Ukrainian Drone Strikes Hit Two Russian Refineries, Fires Reported
Ukraine says it struck two Russian oil refineries overnight, causing fires. Russia claims it intercepted 397 drones across several regions.
Ukrainian forces launched overnight drone attacks on two major oil refineries in Russia, according to statements from Kyiv's military on Saturday. The strikes targeted the Ilsky refinery in the southern Krasnodar region and the Syzran refinery in the Samara region further north.
Local authorities in Krasnodar confirmed that a fire at the Ilsky refinery, which they attributed to falling drone debris, has been extinguished. The governor of the Samara region, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, said an industrial facility was targeted there but did not specify which one.
The Ilsky refinery has a design capacity of over 6 million metric tons of oil per year, while the Syzran refinery can process 8.5 million tons annually. Ukraine has repeatedly struck Russian energy infrastructure in recent months, stating the goal is to cut off resources that fund Moscow's military operations.
Russia's Defence Ministry reported that its air defence systems destroyed 397 Ukrainian drones overnight across multiple regions. Independent verification of the claims from either side was not immediately possible.
