Ukraine hands US negotiators proposals for ending war with Russia
Ukraine has submitted proposals to US negotiators for ending the war with Russia, Zelenskiy announced, calling for more air defence and pressure on Moscow.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday that Ukraine has formally submitted its proposals to American negotiators outlining a path to end the conflict with Russia, now in its fourth year.
In his nightly video address, Zelenskiy confirmed the handover, saying, "We have conveyed our proposals to the American side."
He emphasised that Washington's role could be pivotal in two key areas: strengthening Ukraine's defensive capabilities, particularly air defence systems, and applying pressure on Moscow to shift its approach toward ending the war rather than prolonging it.
"The United States can help strengthen our defence, first and foremost with air defence, and put pressure on Russia so that its plans are different -- to prepare for an end to the war rather than prolonging it," Zelenskiy said.
The announcement comes as diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict continue, with Ukraine seeking to secure concrete commitments from its allies while maintaining pressure on Russia to negotiate in good faith.
