Netflix has released the first look of 'Unaccustomed Earth', starring Freida Pinto and Siddharth, based on Jhumpa Lahiri's short story collection.
Netflix has offered a first glimpse of its forthcoming family drama 'Unaccustomed Earth', with Freida Pinto and Siddharth appearing in the lead roles. The series, adapted from Jhumpa Lahiri's short story collection of the same name, is scheduled to premiere on December 17, 2026.
Pinto plays Parul Chaudhury, a wife and mother who moves back to Cambridge, Massachusetts, with her family following a life-changing cancer diagnosis. Siddharth features as Amit. The narrative centres on their family as well as the Indian American community surrounding them.
The story traces Parul's past and the decisions she takes upon returning to a place where she once felt at home. Her choice to revisit the life she had left behind has consequences for her family and those close to her.
Madhuri Shekar has adapted the collection for the screen and serves as showrunner. Shekar's previous credits include '3 Body Problem' and 'The Nevers'.
The ensemble cast includes Indraneil Sengupta as Jai, Parveen Kaur as Nina, Sarayu Blue as Ruma, Justin Bartha as Adam, Adi Roy as Kaushik, Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig as Hema and Jayant Kripalani as Pranab.
Ritesh Batra will direct and executive produce the first two episodes. The series is executive produced by Shekar, John Wells, Jhumpa Lahiri, Nisha Ganatra, Erica Saleh, Erin Jontow and Celia Costas.
Produced by Warner Bros. Television, 'Unaccustomed Earth' will stream on Netflix from December 17, 2026.
