Centre ends rural-urban LPG gap, sets 25-day refill window for all
India unifies LPG refill booking interval at 25 days for all domestic consumers, ending the 45-day rural restriction.
The Union Petroleum Ministry has directed state-run oil marketing companies to enforce a uniform 25-day gap between domestic LPG refill bookings for all consumers, doing away with the longer 45-day window that was applicable in rural areas.
The directive, issued on September 7, applies immediately to Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum. The ministry said the decision follows a marked improvement in refill availability compared with the peak pressure seen earlier this year.
The differentiated timeline was introduced in February 2026, when the West Asia conflict disrupted supply chains. At the time, urban households were restricted to one booking every 25 days, while rural consumers had to wait 45 days between refills.
Union Minister of State for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism Suresh Gopi confirmed the change, noting in a social media post that the earlier split was a temporary response to supply constraints. With conditions stabilising, the government has now restored a single, simpler rule for every household, regardless of location.
