Unni Mukundan to Headline 50th Film, Turns Writer-Director with Panorama Studios

Malayalam actor-producer Unni Mukundan is set to reach a career milestone, with Mumbai-based production and distribution house Panorama Studios announcing a collaboration with him and his banner, Unni Mukundan Films (UMF).

The yet-untitled project will be Mukundan's 50th outing as an actor. He will not only headline the film but also write and direct it, marking his first turn behind the camera on a feature.

According to a statement shared by his team, the actor described the film as a significant moment in his career. He said his 50th project was a very special milestone, and that stepping into the role of writer-director made it even more meaningful. He added that he had long wanted to tell stories in his own voice, and that this felt like the right project and the right time to take that step.

Billed as a Malayalam action thriller with a pan-Indian release planned, the film's title, remaining cast and production schedule are still to be revealed.

Mukundan made his acting debut in the 2011 Tamil film Seedan and entered Malayalam cinema the same year with Bombay March 12. His recent releases include Marco (2024), Mindiyum Paranjum (2025) and Get-Set Baby (2025).

He has a busy slate ahead. In July, he was announced as part of Whistle, to be directed by Rajeev Krishna. Another project, Maa Vande, in which he is set to portray Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was announced last year.

Panorama Studios, owned by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak, has worked with Malayalam filmmakers before, distributing titles such as Drishyam 3, Unmadham and Anomie: The Equation of Death.
