US Envoys Arrive in Kyiv for Renewed Peace Push as Zelenskyy Hosts Talks

US envoys Witkoff and Kushner met Zelenskyy in Kyiv to advance peace talks amid ongoing conflict.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy received US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Kyiv on Sunday, marking a fresh chapter in diplomatic efforts to end the war with Russia.

The American representatives arrived in the Ukrainian capital as part of a renewed push to revive peace negotiations. Their visit follows a lengthy closed-door session with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Saturday, which lasted over three hours but yielded no publicly announced breakthroughs.

A senior Russian adviser, Yuri Ushakov, described the Moscow talks as "substantive, constructive and extremely frank," signalling that while progress may be slow, channels of communication remain open.

The diplomatic activity comes against a backdrop of intensifying aerial exchanges between the two sides. Notably, Putin and Zelenskyy have agreed to pause strikes on each other's capitals during the negotiation period, a gesture aimed at creating space for dialogue.

The Kyiv meeting underscores the continued involvement of US intermediaries in seeking a resolution to the conflict, even as fighting on the ground shows no signs of abating.
