Washington: US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has signalled that Washington is preparing to impose unprecedented economic pressure on Iran, with fresh measures expected to be unveiled in the coming days.
Speaking on Thursday, Bessent said the upcoming actions would introduce a level of economic isolation "never seen in the history" of such efforts against a country. He described the strategy as a combination of severe financial restrictions and the maintenance of a blockade in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Treasury Secretary indicated that the blockade would prevent goods from entering or leaving Iranian ports, effectively cutting off the country's maritime trade routes.
