A new American ballistic missile, the Precision Strike Missile (PrSM), appears to have caused civilian casualties during its first known combat use in Iran, according to conflict monitor Airwars.
The group documented that three of the Lockheed Martin-built missiles struck the southern Iranian city of Lamerd on February 28. Airwars reported that the explosions killed civilians located as far as 50 meters from the point of detonation.
The PrSM is a surface-to-surface missile developed for the U.S. Army, designed for precision strikes at ranges beyond existing systems. Its deployment in Iran earlier this year marked the first recorded instance of the weapon being used in active combat.
