US Central Command confirms strikes on Iranian military targets

US Central Command says it completed strikes on Iranian military targets following IRGC attacks on shipping and US personnel.

The United States military has confirmed the completion of a coordinated strike operation against Iranian military targets. The announcement was made on Tuesday by US Central Command, which oversees American military operations in the Middle East.

The strikes were carried out on September 1, according to the command. In a statement posted on the social media platform X, Central Command said the operation was a direct response to recent hostile actions by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Those actions included attempted attacks on commercial shipping in the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for global oil shipments. The IRGC was also accused of attempting attacks against American service members in the region.

Central Command did not provide further details on the scale of the strikes or the specific locations of the targets. The statement framed the operation as a defensive measure aimed at deterring further aggression.

The development marks a significant escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran, which have simmered for months over nuclear issues and regional military activities.
