US Strike on Iran Wedding Party Kills Four, Wounds Dozens
A US strike on a wedding in southern Iran killed four and wounded 68, state media reported, amid renewed US-Iran hostilities.
Iranian state media has broadcast footage showing the aftermath of an American strike that reportedly hit a wedding party in a coastal town, killing at least four people and wounding dozens more.
The incident occurred in Bandar Kuhestak, a small town in the Sirik district of Hormozgan province, which overlooks the strategic Strait of Hormuz. Footage aired by the state broadcaster IRIB showed extensive damage to a building identified as the wedding venue, as well as injured children receiving treatment at a local hospital.
An IRIB correspondent on the scene reported four fatalities and 68 injuries resulting from what he described as the latest American crime in the region. State media identified the deceased as two women and two children, aged four and sixteen.
The broadcaster also displayed fragments of what it said was an American missile recovered from the site, along with a damaged telecommunications tower. A speaker in the footage claimed the missile was fired from American ships and pointed to components of its guidance system and fuel valve as evidence.
The US Central Command stated that Tuesday's strikes were directed at military targets, including air defense systems, radar installations, and maritime assets. The US military said it was aware of the civilian casualty report but asserted that it never targets civilians.
The attack comes after a period of relative calm. Fighting has escalated this week following a US strike on Sunday against Iranian rocket launchers on an island in the Strait of Hormuz, which Washington said were positioned to fire mines into the waterway. Iran subsequently launched missiles at American bases in Jordan, which were reportedly all intercepted.
