Uttarakhand HC Seeks Police Report on FIR Against Gym Owner Deepak
Uttarakhand High Court directs Kotdwar police to file a status report on the FIR against Mohammad Deepak, who intervened during a Republic Day dispute.
The Uttarakhand High Court on Tuesday directed the Kotdwar police to submit a status report on the investigation into a First Information Report (FIR) registered against a local gym owner, Deepak, widely known as 'Mohammad' Deepak.
The case stems from an incident on Republic Day, when members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal objected to the name of a long-standing garment shop, 'Baba School Dress and Matching Centre', owned by 71-year-old Wakeel Ahmed. The activists allegedly pressured the elderly shopkeeper to rename his store.
Deepak intervened to protect Ahmed as the situation escalated. A video of the confrontation later went viral, drawing national attention, particularly for the moment Deepak introduced himself as "Mera naam Mohammad Deepak" (my name is Mohammad Deepak).
The High Court's directive on March 17, 2026, seeks an update on the progress of the police investigation into the FIR filed against Deepak. The court's order requires the Kotdwar police to provide a status report on the case.
