Uttarakhand Rain Toll Reaches 12; Orange Alert Issued for Three Districts
Twelve rain-related deaths were reported in Uttarakhand on Tuesday. An Orange Alert is in place for three districts.
Twelve people have died in rain-related incidents across Uttarakhand, according to the State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF). The fatalities were reported on Tuesday as heavy rainfall lashed several parts of the state.
The India Meteorological Department has issued an 'Orange Alert' for heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, for Wednesday. The warning covers the districts of Dehradun, Nainital, and Bageshwar. A 'Yellow Alert' has also been sounded for the remaining districts, where heavy rain is expected at isolated places.
District administrations have been instructed to remain vigilant and be prepared to respond to any weather-related emergencies.
The last 24 hours have seen extremely heavy rainfall, particularly in Nainital district. Nainital city recorded 217 mm of rain, while Bhimtal received 161 mm, Mukteshwar 140 mm, Haldwani 122 mm, Dhari 114 mm, and Kainchi Dham 105 mm. Other areas in the district also recorded significant rainfall.
Elsewhere, Jhulaghat in Pithoragarh received 78.5 mm, Champawat 74 mm, and Kaladhungi in Nainital district 66.5 mm. Moderate to heavy rain was also reported in other districts of the state.
