VACB starts preliminary enquiry into alleged financial irregularities at Oushadhi, the public sector AYUSH pharmaceutical firm, following audit reports and complaints.
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has initiated a preliminary enquiry into allegations of financial irregularities at Oushadhi, the public sector pharmaceutical company functioning under the Department of AYUSH.
The move follows a request from Health Minister K. Muraleedharan to the Home Minister seeking a preliminary VACB probe into the matter. The Minister's request came in the wake of critical audit reports on the firm's functioning, along with complaints of financial and operational irregularities received from various individuals.
In a parallel step, Mr. Muraleedharan had directed the Principal Secretary (Health) to order a detailed inquiry through the Finance Inspection Wing into the alleged financial lapses at Oushadhi.
The VACB's preliminary enquiry will assess whether the available material warrants a deeper investigation. If the initial findings point to substantive irregularities, the bureau will file a First Information Report (FIR) and proceed with a detailed investigation into the matter.
