Indian Railways to Add Two Lines on Vadodara-Ratlam Section to Boost Delhi-Mumbai Connectivity

Indian Railways is set to expand rail infrastructure on the busy Vadodara-Ratlam section, a key link on the Delhi-Mumbai corridor. The Western Railway (WR) will construct third and fourth railway lines over approximately 259 kilometres between the two cities, aiming to ease congestion on a route that carries heavy passenger and freight traffic.

The Vadodara-Ratlam stretch is part of the Golden Quadrilateral network and serves as a vital artery for trains moving between northern and western India. The additional tracks will provide more operational flexibility, allowing for smoother and faster movement of both passenger and freight services. WR officials said the upgrade will enhance safety, punctuality, and overall efficiency on the corridor.

The project is also expected to strengthen connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, supporting industrial and commercial growth along the route.

In a separate development, the 33-kilometre Vishwamitri-Dabhoi railway line will be doubled at an estimated cost of Rs 394 crore. Currently a single-line section, the route limits the number of trains that can operate. Doubling will increase capacity, leading to smoother and more punctual rail traffic.

The Vishwamitri-Dabhoi line is significant for access to the Statue of Unity, a major tourist destination. The upgrade is expected to make travel more convenient for visitors and boost regional tourism.

Together, these projects reflect Indian Railways' broader push to modernise infrastructure and meet growing demand on high-density routes.
