Vande Bharat window shattered in Bihar stone-pelting; case registered

A window pane of the Patna-Gomti Nagar Vande Bharat Express was shattered in a stone-pelting incident in Bihar on August 23, prompting railway authorities to register a case against unidentified persons.

The East Central Railway (ECR), which oversees the Danapur Division where the incident occurred, said the train was passing near Bihta station at approximately 6:40 am when the damage was reported. The impact was noted on Coach C-6 of Train No. 22345.

Following the report, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) reached the site and filed a case under Section 153 of the Railways Act. Investigators are now examining CCTV footage from both the train and the surrounding area to identify those responsible.

As a precautionary measure, the RPF and Government Railway Police (GRP) have intensified joint patrolling in the region to deter similar incidents.

Stone pelting on trains is a criminal offence under Sections 153 and 154 of the Railways Act, 1989. According to railway data, 1,698 such cases were registered across the network between July and December 2025, leading to 665 arrests. The Ministry of Railways has reiterated that strict legal action, including criminal cases and arrests, will be taken against offenders.
