Venice Film Festival: Pattinson and Oasis Set for High-Wattage Saturday

The Venice Film Festival is set for a convergence of rock and cinema royalty on Saturday, as Robert Pattinson and Oasis frontmen Noel and Liam Gallagher attend world premieres on the Lido.

Pattinson stars in "Primetime," a film directed by Lance Oppenheim that examines the peak era of the reality series "To Catch a Predator" and its host, Chris Hansen. The film draws from a 2006 Esquire article about a sting operation that ended in tragedy when the subject, a Texas prosecutor, died by suicide during a police raid. Oppenheim has said the film explores the converging ambitions of a journalist, a producer, and an aspiring actor within that high-stakes television apparatus.

Hansen was not involved in the production and has publicly questioned the filmmakers' intentions, noting he was invited to a screening but objected to a required non-disclosure agreement. The subject was previously explored in the acclaimed documentary "Predators," currently streaming on Paramount+.

For Pattinson, the film adds to a notable year that has included roles in "The Drama" and "The Odyssey," with "Dune: Part Three" also on the horizon. "Primetime" is scheduled for U.S. release on September 25.

The Oasis documentary, titled "Don't Look Back in Anger," blends concert footage with an examination of the Gallagher brothers' famously turbulent relationship, which led to the band's breakup in 2009. Directors Dylan Southern and Will Lovelace said they intended to make a film about reconciliation, but the project evolved alongside the reunion tour itself. The film includes never-before-seen rehearsal footage and the brothers' first joint interview in 25 years.

Disney will release the documentary in IMAX theaters on September 11, with a subsequent debut on Disney+ expected later this year. Both films arrive in U.S. theaters during September.
