Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 Returns to Munich After Takeoff Incident

A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 787 bound for Hanoi was forced to return to Munich Airport on Saturday after a reported runway overrun during takeoff. The aircraft circled for more than two hours to burn off fuel before landing safely, according to flight-tracking data from Flightradar24.

Passengers were evacuated using emergency slides, and fire crews were present at the scene, Flightradar24 reported. The airline confirmed the flight returned to its departure airport due to an unspecified "technical issue," adding that the crew followed all required procedures and landed safely.

"The passengers and cabin crew members are safe," Vietnam Airlines said in a statement, noting that it is coordinating with authorities to inspect the aircraft.

Munich Airport closed its north runway—the one on which the plane landed—and warned of possible disruptions to air traffic. The aircraft had taken off from the south runway, according to Flightradar24 data.

Neither Munich Airport nor Boeing responded to requests for comment outside regular business hours.
