Vietnam's To Lam Backs Palestinian Statehood at UN General Assembly
Vietnam's President To Lam told the UN General Assembly that international law must anchor the global order and voiced support for Palestinian self-determination.
Vietnamese President To Lam used his address at the United Nations General Assembly to press for a rules-based international order and to reaffirm Vietnam's backing for Palestinian statehood.
Speaking at the UN, Lam said the UN Charter and international law form the foundation of the global order and must be respected fully, consistently and without selectivity. He called on all states to respect one another's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, along with the right of each country to choose its own development path.
He also urged countries to refrain from interfering in the internal affairs of others and from the use of force in ways that conflict with the UN Charter.
On managing global tensions, Lam said restoring trust does not require nations to erase their differences, but to handle them responsibly. Crises must be prevented, competition kept in check, dialogue sustained, and commitments honoured and fully complied with, he said.
Turning to conflicts, the Vietnamese president said civilians must be protected in every situation, international humanitarian law must be respected, and humanitarian access to relief aid must be ensured.
Lam said Vietnam supports the rights of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the two-state solution, envisaging an independent State of Palestine living peacefully alongside the State of Israel, in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
