Vigilance flags land irregularities at Pallassana village office over private quarry
VACB recommends action against Pallassana village office staff after an inspection found a private quarry acquired about 50 acres using forged documents and bypassed the Land Reforms Act.
The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) has recommended action against employees of the Pallassana village office following alleged irregularities tied to a private quarry operating in the area.
The findings emerged from a Vigilance inspection carried out on September 5. Investigators suspect that the quarry operators acquired both government and privately held land using forged documents, allegedly with assistance from village officials.
According to the Vigilance findings, the digital survey identified parcels of land with no registered claimants. It is suspected that fabricated documents were subsequently prepared to assert ownership over some of these plots.
Land records are believed to have been manipulated to benefit the quarry. The inspection found that the quarry owners had acquired around 50 acres by circumventing provisions of the Land Reforms Act, with more than eight acres allegedly obtained through forged deeds.
The probe also found that land belonging to private individuals as well as the government had been transferred in the quarry's name.
The investigation followed a complaint lodged about four months ago. Residents had also filed multiple complaints with the panchayat and village authorities against the quarry, and protests were held in the area. Local residents further complained that explosions at the quarry were damaging nearby houses.
