Vijayawada Police Identify 260 in SAAP Office Attack; 12 Arrested
NTR Police Commissionerate has identified 260 individuals in the alleged attack on PETs at the SAAP office in Vijayawada during a YSRCP dharna over DSC recruitment irregularities.
The NTR Police Commissionerate has identified around 260 individuals allegedly involved in an attempt to attack Physical Education Teachers (PETs) at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) office in Vijayawada. The incident occurred on Monday during a dharna organised by the YSRCP.
The protest was directed against alleged malpractices and corruption in the filling of PET posts through the DSC. Demonstrators claimed that unqualified candidates and holders of fake certificates secured jobs, while genuine sportspersons and high achievers were left out.
Among those identified so far, 45 are rowdy sheeters, 71 have been classified as troublemakers, and 91 are protesters already facing criminal cases. The identification was carried out using CCTV and video footage, police said.
According to the police, the dharna was led by eight MLCs, five former MLAs, three former ministers, and four mayors.
On Tuesday, police arrested 12 persons accused of attempting to incite violence. Special teams have been sent to different locations to trace and apprehend the remaining suspects. A detailed investigation into the alleged attack on PETs at the SAAP office is continuing, the police added.
