Auroville unveils virtual museum dedicated to Sri Aurobindo
A state-of-the-art virtual museum on Sri Aurobindo has been launched at Auroville, blending digital exhibits with spiritual themes.
A new virtual museum honouring Sri Aurobindo has been inaugurated at India Space within Bharat Nivas in Auroville, Puducherry. The launch forms part of nationwide observances marking the 150th birth anniversary of the spiritual leader and philosopher.
The project is a collaborative effort involving the Auroville Foundation, the Puducherry government, and the Union Ministry of Culture, with execution handled by the Central Public Works Department.
A senior delegation, including Puducherry Chief Secretary Sharat Chauhan, Secretary A. Muthamma, and Auroville Foundation Officer on Special Duty G. Seetharaman, inspected the facility on Thursday. The core concept and narrative script were developed by Manoj Pavithran, a long-term Aurovilian, ensuring the curation reflects the authentic spiritual ethos of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. The project was realised under the leadership of Jayanti S. Ravi, Additional Chief Secretary to the Gujarat Government and Secretary of the Auroville Foundation.
The museum features advanced digital touchpoints and intuitive learning interfaces designed for visitors of all ages. Exhibits cover Sri Aurobindo's life, integral yoga, literary works, and historical legacy. A distinctive olfactory installation presents the subtle essences of 12 spiritually significant flowers, drawing on the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother regarding floral symbolism.
The facility is expected to open to the public soon, positioning itself as a key cultural, educational, and spiritual destination for visitors, researchers, and devotees in the Auroville and Puducherry region.
